The degree show is near. Things are heating up now. Call here, invite there, posters put up? Banners done? Panels not done! Year book?? What is that? ....

This is the undercurrent and one can feel the pulse in the air. Something big is about to happen!

What is the hype all about? After all, its just a bunch of graduating students right?

There are students who get masters degrees all over the world! What's the big deal about these students?

Not really a big deal. Definitely not if you can ignore the fact that these are the cream 47 handpicked from the best of engineers, artists, architects and designers in the country and moulded to become designers who are going to mould the country's future in the next few years. Definitely not a big deal if you ignore the fact that these post graduates have been working and will continue to work not for providing 'designer' products in the market but for providing better standards of living even to the most deprived and under served sections of the society.

'Swarna', an apt name. This degree show takes place in one of the darkest times possible for the entire world. When there is a slowdown in every economy and there is an uncertain future ahead. 'Swarna' hopes to be that one thin golden lining against this dark cloud which brings with it the hope, enthusiasm and vision of fresh young minds who refuse to be brought down by the down turn. Who, with their hard work and creative thinking are busy working out ways to provide quality to a world where good living and comfort are things only dreamt of, unless you can pay a heavy price for them.

‘The Golden Ornament Of Creativity’

The brush stroke that crowns the logo of Swarna is the representation of everything that we stand for. It is that ornament, that one jewel on the sensuous queen of elegance that becomes the source of her captivating beauty. Like design decorates our lives, our minds and our deeds, this ornament decorates Swarna – a festival of our talent.

It is depicted as a raw swirl of a brush to show the unharnessed creativity that our minds posses. The graceful curves, the careless swashes come together as a symbol of our youthful, buoyant energy. It flows beautifully into the two curves like molten gold flows out of the kiln, pure and shining.

Possibilities are infinite in front of us as we step out of the shelter of our alma mater into the real world, poised to test ourselves and apply our newly acquired prowess to touch lives. This is represented by the shape of infinity that this Golden Ornament abstracts. The two smooth curves hint how we can sculpt the world around us such that we make it into something much better than anyone could have ever imagined it could be. We can fly beyond imagination.

Welcome to 'Swarna'

DDS is the annual design festival of IDC, aimed at creating design awareness in society and simultaneously offers a platform for people to meet, interact and facilitates new ideas to emerge and innovative collaborations to materialize.

This years’ DDS themed 'Swarna', is the exhibition of design efforts by professors and present batch students.
